graphic designaboutA selection of photos I took at the closing of (No)bodies allowed in Het Archief Art space in Rotterdam. (No) bodies allowed follows nightlife in transformation: from a place of collective survival to a commercialised extension of contemporary lifestyle culture. Rooted in the Black and queer underground since the 1970s, club culture offered space for free bodily expression, escapism and a safe haven for communities excluded elsewhere.
Rather than looking back nostalgically at what nightlife once was, (No) bodies allowed uses the past as a starting point to explore the present and the near future. The exhibition asks which forms of expression and collective care artists, DJs, organisers and communities are already putting into practice today.
This exhibition is curated by @pouise and shows the work of: Bogomir Doringer (@bogomirdoringer), Sam Wullens (@sam_with_the_cam), Matthijs van den Berg (@matthijs.vd.berg), Cyberbirdxx (@cyberbirdxx) and Aistė Maciulevičiūtė (@opd4.ai).
